Alby Mathewson is heading to warmer weather across the Tasman and will play his Super Rugby season for the Western Force next year.
Mathewson joined the Blues in 2010 and has earned 47 caps in three seasons, scoring 65 points including 13 tries.
The halfback will play the 2012 ITM Cup season for Auckland before joining the Western Force in December.
"The Blues thank Alby for his considerable contribution to the Blues during his three seasons with us and we wish him and his family well for their future in Perth," said Blues CEO Andy Dalton.
Mathewson will begin his contract with the Western Force on December 1, which enables him to continue playing for Auckland in this year's provincial competition.
"I'm really enjoying the Auckland team and am keen to finish off my time here with a strong ITM Cup season. Looking ahead, I'm pretty excited about what lies ahead. My brother has recently moved to Perth and I know a couple of the guys in the squad, including Winston Stanley."
Mathewson said he has enjoyed his time at the Blues, living in Auckland and the friends he's made. His highlight was being named Super Rugby Player of the Year in 2010.
Blues head coach John Kirwan said the Blues were in negotiations with Alby who had another offer on the table. "Alby decided to take the offer from the Western Force and good luck to him for this new chapter in his rugby career."
