McAlister possesses the size, athleticism and skill to excel in the 10, 12 or 13 jersey and has already performed with distinction in all three positions during his career with the Blues.
McAlister debuted for the Blues in 2004 and played for the franchise for four seasons before departing overseas to take up a contract with English Aviva Premiership side Sale Sharks.
But the classy North Harbour back returned to the Blues after a two year stint overseas to bolster the backline in 2010 and will be hoping to reclaim his position in the All Blacks with a solid performance for the Blues in 2011.
McAlister made his All Blacks debut in 2005 in the third Test against the British & Irish Lions. The 2002 IRB Under-19 Player of the Year, McAlister was also the Blues’ top points scorer in the 2005 Rebel Sport Super 14
