Disappointing end leaves Blues in seventh
Outgoing coach Peter Sloane’s fourth and final campaign started promisingly with just the franchise’s second victory at Carisbrook over the Highlanders, followed by a narrow 18-15 win over the Queensland Reds.
But losses to both the Chiefs (9-18) and the Crusaders followed – the latter a crushing 41-19 defeat which had the Eden Park faithful totally silenced by the 34-0 halftime scoreline.
The Blues managed four consecutive victories, but a slump of three losses in the final three weeks saw the Blues slip to seventh on the table.
