Benson Stanley was actually born in New South Wales in Australia, but moved to play his rugby in New Zealand.
Part of a proud rugby clan including Chase and Joe, Stanley earnt a Bachelor of Commerce before moving to concentrate on his rugby.
After a promising debut season for the Blues in 2008, Stanley tore his hamstring off the bone in the Blues’ first match of the 2009 Rebel Sport Super 14 against the Western Force and was ruled out for the rest of the season.Â
But he came back to captain Auckland in the NPC in 2009 and led by example with his hard hitting defence.Â
He was one of four new caps selected in Graham Henry's first squad of 2010 and made three appearances, debuting against Ireland in June.
